Drake Says He'll 'Thrive' On Next Album

Drizzy says that while a lot of Take Care was down, he will switch up the tempo for his next album.

Since he dropped his breakout tape So Far Gone in 2009, Drake has been consistently going through changes. With each music project, he documents his ever-evolving life, so fans shouldn't expect that to change when he finally releases his third LP. Drizzy didn't want to give too much away, but from the sound of things, it'll be much different from his sophomore effort Take Care.

"I think that my mood will be reflected in the tempos that I choose for the music," Drake said of his next LP during a press conference call Tuesday. "A lot of Take Care, it's down, a lot of it's down and I think a lot of that had to do with being back home in Toronto and getting reacquainted with the life I had before and the difficulties of that, but at the same time trying to express excitement and trying to express joy."

Though he still keeps a place in his native Toronto, Drake has recently moved to L.A. The relocation has already sparked musical ideas for the Young Money star. "There's just so much going on for me in the U.S. that I recently made the move to L.A.," he said. "It's a new atmosphere, getting to know new people. It's going to be a very interesting album."

Drake told MTV News that with Take Care, he was telling a story inspired by his 2009 track "Houstatlantavegas." On the song, Drake created a fictional world, describing a love affair with an ambitious stripper who can't quite get out of the life. "It was a world that was very much real to me, but I created it in my mind. It was a world that, being a kid from Toronto, I used to look at from the outside and I used to be like, 'Man that looks crazy,' " he told us. "All those strip clubs and all those nightclubs and the drinks and the girls and the fame."

Things have evolved in the months since he released Take Care. "Now I'm kind of in a very, very, very, very different place than I've ever been," Drake said. "I think it will be conceptually one of the best projects that I've ever worked on because there's so many new things going on in my life. Everybody knows when it's new, that's when I thrive."

The over-the-air assault erases any remaining doubt that Romney is playing to win Santorum?s home state, and it makes clear that he sees the Keystone State?s April 24 primary as a chance to unequivocally end the GOP race. If Santorum has to win Pennsylvania?s contest to sustain his campaign ? as he himself has said is necessary ? he?ll have to do so despite being heavily outspent yet again.

?This blows through overkill and goes into blitzkrieg,? said Chris Nicholas, a longtime Pennsylvania Republican operative unaffiliated with either campaign. ?Obviously, the Romney campaign is sending a message.?

The Romney ad purchase is as notable for its breadth as its depth ? in addition to spending $1 million in the Philadelphia media market over the next two weeks, the campaign is also dropping hundreds of thousands of dollars on much smaller markets in Erie and Scranton. Such a purchase will saturate the airwaves there, according to Nicholas.

The staggering size of the buy has floored many Pennsylvania Republicans, even prompting concerns that smaller stations might not have enough time left over to air ads from other campaigns. Former Erie congressman Phil English, a Romney ally, called it ?probably the most intense buy I?ve ever seen.?

?I think people will have an intimate feeling about Mitt Romney by the time this is over,? said English. He said the size of the buy indicates the campaign might have an eye on improving its position for the general election against President Obama, as well.

Before the purchase, the Romney camp had been careful to keep expectations in the state low. Romney, campaigning in Harrisburg last week, said Santorum should win his home state, just as Newt Gingrich claimed victory in Georgia and Romney prevailed in Michigan and Massachusetts. But that understatement belies Romney?s strength in a state with the type of well-educated, upscale GOP electorate that put him over the top in other states such as Ohio and Illinois.

The Romney campaign sees Pennsylvania as an opportunity to put a definitive end to the protracted primary. It's worth investing time and money now that the polls show a tight race, said Charlie Black, a Washington lobbyist advising the campaign.

"If Romney wins Pennsylvania, it's over,'' he said. "It wouldn't be fair for Rick Santorum to be treated as a serious candidate after that.''

Even if Santorum were to win the popular vote in Pennsylvania, Black said Romney would get the lion's share of support from the delegates to the convention, who will be chosen at later date. Most of those people are elected officials and party leaders who "are already for Romney or are going to be for Romney,'' he said.

Polls indicate the race is nearly a dead heat: The former Bay State governor trailed Santorum by only 6 points in Pennsylvania, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released last week. A Franklin & Marshall College survey reported he was behind by only 2 points. Both were conducted before Romney?s ad blitz.

Much to the frustration of the candidate and his allies, Santorum repeatedly has taken early leads in primary states only to watch them evaporate under a bomboardment of ads from Romney and Restore Our Future, the deep-pocketed super PAC that supports him. Santorum now faces a similar prospect in his home state.

?It?s the normal race that he?s seen in every state,? said Jake Corman, a state senator in Pennsylvania and a family friend of Santorum. ?Polling has him ahead early and Romney comes in and carpet-bombs him until he falls behind. That?s what happens when you?re fighting against an endless stream of money.?

Corman said he hopes Santorum?s long-standing familiarity with the state?s GOP base will blunt the effectiveness of the negative ads. But as he heads into the next round of primaries, Santorum isn?t just fighting off TV ads ? he?s also contending with the increasing sense that he is about to exit the race. A trio of defeats in Maryland, Wisconsin, and Washington, D.C., last week sparked calls from many influential Republicans and media pundits that Santorum should end his campaign.

That has made fundraising difficult, Corman said during an interview with National Journal. He added that media speculation about Santorum's fate hasn't helped.

?Money is a key issue, and that?s where the frustration of your guys? coverage comes into play -- because it?s hard to raise money when people are talking about you getting out,? he said.

Santorum allies, Corman included, emphasize both publicly and privately that the campaign has had no discussions about dropping out despite the endless speculation otherwise. Santorum's 3-year-old daughter, Bella, was hospitalized over the weekend, but the campaign put out a statement on Monday that she had begun recovering and that her father would return to the trail on Tuesday.

New Report Says Autism is on the Rise - health bistro image ...

The number of cases of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has risen sharply, according to a new study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The finding was based on a 2008 survey of 300,000 children 8 years old from 14 communities across the country. The total number of children estimated to carry the diagnosis (ASD prevalence) has increased by 23% since 2006, and 78% since an initial 2002 survey.

The numbers seem alarming, but the CDC is quick to note some important limitations to their report that could temper the findings.

ASDs are almost five times more common among boys than girls, accounting for a ratio of 1 case of ASD in every 54 boys. The combined ratio for boys and girls has jumped from 1 in 150 children in 2002, to 1 in 125 in 2004, 1 in 110 in 2006, and 1 in 88 based on the 2008 data. The study also shows that more children are being diagnosed at an earlier age, which allows for earlier therapeutic intervention.

The Children?s Health Act of 2000 authorized the CDC to create the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. Its purpose was to collect data that would provide estimates of the prevalence of ASDs across the country and identify higher risk groups that might better direct funding initiatives and therapeutic interventions. Fourteen states participate in the network, from Arizona to New Jersey.

The 14 network participants were selected through a competitive review process on the basis of their ability to conduct surveillance of ASDs. They weren?t selected to be a nationally representative sample. Therefore, it?s not clear that the results can be extrapolated to the country as a whole.

For the purposes of the study, a child was considered to meet the case definition for ASD if he or she displayed behaviors consistent with the American Psychiatric Association?s Diagnostic Manual criteria for the following conditions: Autistic Disorder; Pervasive Developmental Disorder ? Not Otherwise Specified, including Atypical Autism; or Asperger Disorder.

These criteria leave a lot of room for researchers to include milder cases of Asperger or diverse developmental problems along with more severe autistic disorders, potentially resulting in the overestimating the number of ASD diagnoses. The study was also based on data extracted from medical records and not from direct observation and diagnosis by a trained professional.? A previous study in England based on chart review resulted in significant over-diagnosis of the disorder. Moreover, CDC notes there was variability in chart review methods between the 14 study sites.

There are no medical or blood tests for diagnosing ASD, rendering the diagnosis quite difficult at times.? Sometimes ASDs can be detected at 18 months. An experienced professional can make a reliable diagnosis by age 2.

However, many children aren?t diagnosed until much later. Most will be diagnosed by age 8, so the CDC selected that age for the basis of its ASD prevalence reporting.

Although primary-care pediatricians are capable of making the diagnosis, cases are often referred to specialists due to the complexity of the assessments required.? Trained professionals will examine the developmental and behavioral history, and may also include hearing and vision screening, genetic testing, neurological testing, and other medical tests.

The CDC notes that the survey wasn?t designed to determine the causes for the increase in ASD prevalence. The rapid rise of reported ASD rates between 2002 and 2008 strongly suggests that study methodology and increased awareness and reporting of ASD-related conditions are the major contributing factors.

While environmental and genetic factors are possible contributors, it?s highly unlikely they are significant.

If you?re a concerned parent, the best advice is to make sure your child has regular check-ups with his/her pediatrician or family doctor in order to properly assess developmental milestones. If developmental delays or behavioral challenges are identified, then further testing will be necessary.

Remember, the most likely cause of increased prevalence of ASDs is enhanced awareness and detection along with the inclusion of broad diagnostic criteria. ?No changes to your child?s routine diet, environmental exposure, or activity are suggested.
