Get screened ? Ask your doctor what screening tests are right for you. Annual mammograms starting at age 40 are recommended.
Know what is normal for you ? See your doctor if you notice any changes in your breasts.
Make healthy life choices ? Maintain a healthy weight, add exercise to your routine, limit alcohol intake, limit postmenopausal hormone use, and breast feed.

Breast health advocates will be preaching to the faithful on April 29 when African-American churches across Gaston County celebrate Pink Sunday.
On the heels of last year?s successful event, Cancer Services of Gaston County is one again teaming up with the Susan Komen Foundation to reach black women with this message: Knowledge is power and early detection could just save your life.
?If we can save just one life then it will all be worth it,? said Kim Elmore, community outreach coordinator for Cancer Services.
But a lot more lives than that could be saved judging from the way Gaston County churches have embraced the event.
Last year, members of the Pink Sunday Committee helping Elmore set a goal of getting 20 churches participate. That number soared to 42, prompting the volunteers to set this year?s goal at 50 churches.
On Pink Sunday, women, men and children are encouraged to dress in pink. Participating churches have lined up guest speakers whose lives have been touched by breast cancer, will hold events to honor survivors and remember those who have lost their battle, and will offer educational programs. The churches will also give away materials, such as fans provided by Cancer Services that include important information about breast cancer, and breast health information provided by the Gaston County Health Department.
Cancer Services is focusing on the African-American churches because black women are more likely to die from breast cancer at every age.
?That?s why teaching about self exams and knowing where to get mammograms is important,? Elmore said. ?Our job is to educate women on how to take care of themselves.?
She attributes the success of Pink Sunday to her committee members who she said have worked tirelessly on the event.
?They?re amazing,? she said, pointing out that many of her volunteers are survivors or know someone who has battled breast cancer. ?Women love to share. They?ve been through it and they want to help someone else.?

ABOUT BREAST CANCER
- It?s the most common cancer among women, accounting for nearly 1 in 4 cancers diagnosed in women in the U.S., not matter your race or ethnicity.
- 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer some time in her life.
- Breast cancer incidence and death rates generally increase with age. From 2002-2006, 95 percent of new breast cancer cases and 97 percent of breast cancer deaths occurred in women age 40 and older.
- White women have a higher incidence of breast cancer than African-American women beginning at age 45. In contrast, black women have a higher incidence rate before age 45 and are more likely to die from breast cancer at every age.
- Breast cancer is curable, but it depends on how early it is detected. For breast cancer cases detected early, there is a 90 percent success rate.

3 Tiger Woods Mistresses Star in New Adult Film
Vivid Entertainment's newest movie, 3 Mistresses: Notorious Tales of the World's Greatest Golfer, stars Devon James, Joslyn James and Holly Sampson - three acclaimed adult "actresses" who made national headlines as being mistresses of Tiger Woods.

Ottawa, Ontario -- A healthy century old American elm on the campus of the University of Guelph could hold the key to reviving the species that has been decimated by Dutch elm disease (DED). This tree is an example of a small population of mature trees that have resisted the ravages of DED. A study published in the Canadian Journal of Forest Research (CJFR) examines using shoot buds from the tree to develop an in vitro conservation system for American elm trees.
"Elm trees naturally live to be several hundred years old. As such, many of the mature elm trees that remain were present prior to the first DED epidemic," says Praveen Saxena, one of the authors of the study. "The trees that have survived initial and subsequent epidemics potentially represent an invaluable source of disease resistance for future plantings and breeding programs."
Shoot tips and dormant buds were collected from a mature tree that was planted on the University of Guelph campus between 1903 and 1915. These tips and buds were used as the starting material to produce genetic clones of the parent trees. The culture system described in the study has been used successfully to establish a repository representing 17 mature American elms from Ontario. This will facilitate future conservation efforts for the American elm and may provide a framework for conservation of other endangered woody plant species.
The American elm was once a mainstay in the urban landscape before DED began to kill the trees. Since its introduction to North America in 1930, Canada in 1945, DED has devastated the American elm population, killing 80% of the trees.

You might not see Katy Perry when she arrives on set, but you definitely hear her — and the whirl of humanity that surrounds her every step of the way.
There are publicists and managers, stylists and makeup folks, at least one assistant, the odd journalist and a few rather fashionable gentlemen whose roles are not clearly defined (though they smoke cigarettes and usually speak French). And on Monday, when I met up with Katy in London, there was also a documentary crew in tow — two camera guys, a director and a field producer — bringing the sum total of her posse to 15. And they make their presence known from the second they descend on the scene, snapping Polaroids, hanging wardrobe, moving furniture, gabbing, texting, dabbing, smoking, quietly judging (I am nothing if not insecure). It's a whoosh of activity that not only announces her arrival, but makes you realize that it truly takes an army to make the Katy Perry machine operate on a daily basis.
At the center of it all, of course, is Katy herself, who today strides into the penthouse of London's Corinthia Hotel wearing sunglasses, singing about fish filets (she'd just covered Jay-Z and Kanye's "Paris" on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge). Probably due to the past two years of her life, in which she rose from curio-case pop star to one of the most famous people on the planet, she seems completely oblivious to everything transpiring around her (or at least is used to it), and as she is encircled by her team, she's still singing, her blue hair the only part of her that's visible in the crowd.
At this point, having spent enough time around the Britneys and Gagas of the world, I'm used to entourages — though Katy's struck me as different. Maybe it's the fact that her personal life has become very public, or that her every gesture is discussed ad infinitum on the Internet, but they seemed less like hired hands as an actual army, determined to protect their leader at all costs. They're kind of like the Secret Service, only, you know, way more fabulous.
Katy definitely knows this, as she explained during our interview — we're premiering her brand-new "Part of Me" video tonight, which was the impetus for this chat — most of her favorite memories all involve her team. A recent one being the night she was reunited with some 40 members of her California Dreams Tour crew for a dinner that quickly devolved into an impromptu dance-off, which is why her neck was totally killing her on this day. She may be the queen bee, but she's definitely not opposed to getting down and dirty with her drones. Not as if she'd ever refer to them as such.
Though it's impossible to truly get a read on anyone in an hour, I will say this about Katy Perry: Unlike Britney Spears or Lady Gaga — both of whom are plenty nice — she still seems like a pretty normal person, albeit one with blue hair. She screws around a lot (she jokingly threatened to punch me in the face if I kept screwing up my lines), displayed an impressive acumen for swearing and even worked the word "bro" into our conversation on at least six occasions. She spoke with great pride about the rigorous boot-camp training she underwent for the "Part of Me" video, even extolling the virtues of the MRE rations she dined on during production ("they tasted like a McRib!"). She can play the piano surprisingly well, as she displayed on the baby grand in our penthouse and openly pined for McNuggets (and if you're keeping score at home, that's the third time she referenced McDonald's during our interview).
She is, at this juncture in her career, still trying very hard to remain close to her roots, to the point where she keeps mentioning them when talking about making the follow-up to Teenage Dream. And she still seems determined to prove that all this success was not a fluke, mostly through sheer work. She's currently promoting the reissue of Dream and has a 3-D concert film on deck after that. The next open spot in her schedule seems to be this summer, at which point she may "pull on a beanie and backpack across Europe" before getting to work on album number three. "Tireless" doesn't seem to do her justice. Perhaps "driven" is the right term.
Of course, one could wonder just how long all this normalcy can last, especially given everything that goes along with it (most folks I know certainly don't travel with a documentary crew, after all). I'd wager she's aware of that and hell-bent on proving that it can be done; that she can still have her McNuggets and eat them too. I wouldn't bet against her, because she knows she's got plenty of folks counting on her, and she's determined to reciprocate their level of dedication. Just like you or me, she doesn't want to let her loved ones down.
Can Katy pull it off? We'll all just have to wait and see. But if she does, the next time I catch up with her, there's a pretty good chance her entourage will have doubled in size, meaning that you'll know she's arrived before she's even in the building. And at that point, not only will she probably own several McDonald's, but she'll be able to staff them too. A girl can dream, after all.

Much of the focus will be on the law?s mandate that individuals must buy private insurance or be fined. But an equally compelling issue is whether the law violates the sovereignty of states.

The new law erodes that sovereignty in many ways, such as requiring states to spend more on Medicaid. But its biggest impact may be that it hinders the states? ability to offer alternatives paths to universal health care by not allowing them to exempt their citizens from the mandate.
Since the law?s passage, 14 states have passed measures to guarantee the freedom of their citizens not to buy health insurance. And 26 states are party to the legal challenges to the law. This shows a rigorous assertion of the argument that local government is the best government, especially in the face of a federal law that aims to control an industry that makes up 17 percent of the economy.
In fact, while the high court will try to balance competing federal and state powers in its coming ruling (expected in June), the issue may not be strictly constitutional but rather the best way Americans can change their society in regard to difficult topics such as access to health care.
States have long played a vital role as laboratories for reform, inspiring one another to adopt programs that are proven to work. California, for example, has set stiff air pollution laws, while Arizona is trying ways to curb illegal immigration. Such a role would be further diminished by the heavy hand of this health-care law through its mandates.
Achieving the goal of universal care could be more easily achieved if Washington were to play only a supporting role for states as each tries to meet a popular demand for universal coverage.
In fact, the Supreme Court ruled in 2010 that Congress must ?properly? account for state interests when it passes a law that invokes the Constitution?s ?Necessary and Proper? clause. That clause could be the focus of next week?s hearings as the Obama administration plans to invoke it as a legal defense in asking the court to uphold the law.
In both these Supreme Court cases and this year?s presidential campaign, the health-care law is reviving a debate over state sovereignty that is as old as the Constitutional Convention of 1787. But this time the issue is linked to the rights of individuals not to be penalized for simply not engaging in an economic activity, such as the health system.
No wonder the court has allowed an unusual three days to hear all the arguments ? and to release audio recordings of their sessions soon afterward. Five of the nine justices must then choose wisely on rebalancing this law?s challenge to rights, sovereignty, and freedom.
