BOSTON (AP) ? The three Republicans and two Democrats seeking nominations to run in a special U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts are making a final pre-primary push for votes.
The race to fill the seat formerly held by Secretary of State John Kerry has been overshadowed by the Boston Marathon bombing. A light turnout is expected for Tuesday's primary.
The Republican candidates are businessman and former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez and former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan, who bumped into each other campaigning on a street corner Monday, and state Rep. Daniel Winslow.
Democratic U.S. Rep. Edward Markey greeted voters at a Boston train station Monday. His opponent, U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch, canceled some events because of illness.
A win would help Senate Democrats maintain a caucus edge of 55-45 in the Senate as they press forward on issues including immigration.
